Bacterial Evolution

The Currie Lab has developed a large database of genome sequences from a diversity of bacteria through the various projects that it has undertaken. We are using all of these genomic resources to study evolutionary trends in bacteria, with a focus on insect symbionts and, more generally, Actinobacteria. The insights gained here are not only capable of changing our understanding of bacterial evolution and diversity, but they can help us to better identify secondary metabolites for antibiotic discovery and enzymes for use in bioenergy production.
